Bishoplea House

This renovation of a historic Victorian home in Claremont was rooted in both preservation and transformation. The client—owner of a local design store—envisioned a home that would not only reflect her design sensibilities but also serve as a living backdrop for the pieces she curates and sells. A key aspect of the project was reclaiming lost space to the street, reestablishing the home’s presence on its site. The renovation involved a comprehensive overhaul of the kitchen, lounge, bathrooms, dining room, and original fireplaces, while introducing a new pool pavilion, braai area, garage, and expanded kitchen. The house now breathes new life, balancing heritage integrity with contemporary expression. It stands as both a functional family home and a custodian of design—carefully crafted through an intensive heritage approvals process.
